According to the Taiwan Ministry of Health and Welfare, in 2020, 274 new cases of cancer were
reported
among children aged 0-14, with cancer ranking as the second leading cause of death among children aged
1-14
in 2021, with a 2% mortality rate. Globally, approximately 400,000 children aged 0-19 are diagnosed
with
cancer each year, and around 80% of pediatric cancer cases in high-income countries can be cured.
Precision medicine is being used to select cancer treatments, including the cultivation of circulating
tumor cells
(CTCs) for drug testing, aiming to reduce the chances of ineffective treatment. In 2020, the Taiwan
Children's
Cancer Foundation achieved a 5-year survival rate of 75.5% and a 10-year survival rate of 72.2%
through collaborative
efforts.
